A notebook for looking closely
Working with a small palette
A limited palette can make an ordinary scene feel coherent. Look for related colours before searching for a strong contrast.
Notice the neutral tones
Grey surfaces are rarely completely neutral. Reflected light can give a wall or a pavement a gentle colour cast.
Compare nearby areas
Place two colour samples beside one another. Their relationship is more useful than a single isolated colour value.
